Course Description:
High school health integrates a variety of health concepts, skills, and behaviors to plan for personal and lifelong health goals. These include awareness and consequences of risky behaviors, disease prevention, overall wellness, and identification of community health resources. Students are taught how to access accurate information that they can use to promote health for themselves and others. Students demonstrate comprehensive health and wellness knowledge and skills. They use problem-solving, research, goal-setting, and communication skills to protect their health and that of the community.
Grading: Students will be assessed on the 8 National Health Standards. Unit and Lesson quizzes and tests; Essays; Projects will count for 60% of their total grade. Daily Work & Engagement (Instant Daily Activity, Participation, Discussions, Journals, formative assessments, Surveys, Daily Work) will count for 40% of their total grade.

Standard 1 (30%) :Students will comprehend concepts related to health promotion and disease prevention to enhance health.

Standard 2 (10%): Students will analyze the influence of family, peers, culture, media, technology, and other factors on health behaviors.

Standard 3 (10%): Students will demonstrate the ability to access valid information and products and services to enhance health.

Standard 4 (10%): Students will demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal communication skills to enhance health and avoid or reduce health risks.

Standard 5 (10%): Students will demonstrate the ability to use decision-making skills to enhance health.

Standard 6 (10%): Students will demonstrate the ability to use goal-setting skills to enhance health.

Standard 7 (10%): Students will demonstrate the ability to practice health-enhancing behaviors and avoid or reduce health risks.

Standard 8 (10%): Students will demonstrate the ability to advocate for personal, family, and community health.

Google Classroom Code: Access code will be provided by teacher.
Late/Absent/re-done Work:
Check google classroom. Most work and materials will be posted in Google classroom, so you can work on catching up from home. Assigned work will be accepted up until the unit test or per agreement with Mr. Glock. If you are needing extra time, please communicate with me. Gathering missing work from absences is the student’s responsibility. Please email me if you have turned something in late or redone.
